Scope and ContentAn intermediate series of valuation lists, for the period between that covered by the barony-based lists in List 1 (c1888-1897), and the ED number-based lists in List 4 (c1900-38). This series represents a transition from organising valuation lists by civil parish to a system organised by electoral divisions. These divisions were based upon the sanitary districts under the poor law unions and are arranged accordingly. As such these lists differ from the earlier barony lists in most cases the lists do not include valuations for those towns with their own sanitary districts, such as Clonakilty, Cobh (Queenstown), Fermoy, Kinsale, Midleton, Skibbereen, and Youghal. For valuations in urban areas see relevant Urban District Council and Town Council records. The Electoral Divisions in this list were retrospectively given the number of one of the EDs to which they related. It has, however, been decided to form them into a distinct series. This is because they generally cover more than one ED, and they relate to a time before ED numbers came into effect. The descriptions below note the EDs and years covered by each volume. The ED number retrospectively allocated to each list is noted in square brackets.
