Scope and ContentOriginal signed registers of orders of the Assistant County Manager for the West Cork County Health District. Functional areas for which the assistant county manager exercises executive power include Public Health Acts (water supply, sewerage, lighting), Burial Grounds, Labourer's Acts (social housing), sanitary and health schemes (eg, school medical service, free milk, registration and licencing of dairy and slaughter premises, welfare for the blind), and 'Miscellaneous' (sanitary officers, fire stations, financial affairs).
Recurring subjects include repair, provision, and rental of water services, maintenance and staffing of amenities, burial ground extensions, tenancy, rental, and repair of labourers' cottages, payments, and appointment of sanitary officers to districts. [Dispensary districts within the West Cork district are outlined in the Scope and Content of series CC/WE/PA/MO, a similar series containing Public Assistance orders].
Registers are generally indexed and orders are signed.
The originals only go up to 1947, for the 1948 to 1966 registers, see CC/WE/PH/MO/C.
The present orders succeed the minutes of the West Cork Board of Health and Public Assistance (CBPA/WE/M), which body was responsible for public health functions and services up to August 1942. The registers of orders are complemented by the Record of Business maintained by the Assistant County Manager for the period Sep 1942 - Nov 1943 (CC/WE/PH/RB), and minutes of the West Cork Public Health and Assistance Committee (CC/WE/PHA/M), which body had a role in considering and making recommendations on manager's orders. [See Allied Materials].
*Registers refer to the 'County Health District', but related and predecessor records refer to 'Public Health' functions. This description is retained in the title of the series, to connect it with related records, and to distinguish it from other kinds of health records, eg, hospital records.
