Scóp agus InneacharSound recordings of 34 interviews with people living in Cork on the topic of religious customs and practices.
Each of the 34 recordings is about 1 hour in length and a number of the recordings are of married couples. The personal experiences of interviewees in relation to various religious activities, sacrements, prayers, and traditions are explored in these recordings. The interviewees were encouraged to utilise the local idioms and expressions used on a daily basis throughout their lives. Topics covered include holy communion, confirmation, confession, being “churched”, holy hour, Knock pilgrimages, mass, stations of the cross, the rosary, wakes and funeral traditions, fasting, lent, dues, missions, holy wells, Lough Derg pilgrimage, Gougane Barra, confraternities, catechism, religious education, Little Nellie of Holy God, the pioneers, church holidays, grottos, churches in Blarney and Garycloyne, mass rocks, monasteries, piseogs, religious upbringing, processions, being an altar boy, priesthood, extreme unction, graveyards, pattern days, cures, candlemas, Easter, Corpus Christi, Halloween, holy days, St. Gobnait’s Well, Gougane Barra, St. Finbarr, O’Sullivan Beara, Ó Riada mass, eucharistic ministry, The Tailor and Ansty, faction fighting, the angelus, Ballyhea church.
