Scope and ContentU74/A/1. 1600s - 1900s Copy of PRONI calendar/descriptive list with detailed descriptions of letters and papers concerning the Irish estates of Viscount Midleton (comprising 85 letters and two letter books, PRONI Collection Ref. T.2862). Originals held by Guildford Museum and Muniment Room, photocopies held by PRONI.
U74/A/2. (1 Dec 1765) Copy of T.2862/4/2 an account of the estates, settled and unsettled, submitted to Albinia, Lady Midleton. In alphabetical order it shows in detail 131 farms and properties the area of each and the nature of their leases. Accompanying the cover note to the account of the estates is a note expressing exasperation at the use of Irish place names; to overcome this difficulty it is proposed to write for a copy of Mr St. John Brodrick's marriage settlement. Farm 69 has a note 'tenant ejected but your Lordship will not proceed upon the said ejectment, till you shall answer his bill'. There is also listed under 139 'Deer-park 3339 acres 3 roods 27 perches. ... It is common to assign different names to the same lands and the very same names to lands distant and totally distinct from each other.' (9pp)

U74/B/4. 1828 Copy of original MS. bound volume listing the rents paid by all tenants on the Broderick/Viscount Midleton estate, for 210 properties in County Cork (plus 16 properties in perpetuity to the Earl of Shannon and others) ranging from c. 4 acres to over 1000 acres; also 75 properties in the Town and Parks of Midleton; 241 properties in the Town of Cove (Cobh) and lands of Kilgarvan; 6 properties in the lands of Deerpark, 11 properties in Cork City and South Liberties; also 1 property County Dublin, and 3 properties in County Limerick. Lists number of roll, name of land holding/townland/street, acreage, yearly rent payable, name of lessee, date of commencement of lease, term of lease, remarks (often giving those named in the lease), for example: County Cork, Roll No. 139, lands in Dongorney (pres. Dungourney), size 52 acres 0 roods 2 perches, rent of £18, 9s. 3d, name Ahearne Edmond, lease date 25 Mar 1816, for 3 lives, remarks: 'All existing, Lord Viscount Boyle, Hewitt Poole, and Joseph Welland'.
