Bound volume containing copies of letters by Davys Tuckey [signed D Tuckey], attorney, to family and friends. The volume also contains verse, essays, and copies of essays and letters, including a letter by Rev John Armstrong on D Tuckey's death, dated 30 Nov 1819. The copy letters are all in one hand, and include initialled editorial notes. Tuckey's main correspondents are Dr Thomas Tuckey, Mallow [brother], Susan Tuckey (nee Kift, D Tuckey's wife), and John Thomas Kift (her brother). Subjects include his legal work, financial affairs, health, and family matters. One letter to Susan shortly precedes their marriage, which, as is noted, occurred on 5 Feb 1803. Many letters to her are addressed from English cities, including Bath, Portsmouth, and London. He also wrote regularly from Dublin, where he attended court sittings, and other Irish towns. The remainder of the volume includes an essay on the new testament and the virtues, a copy of an address of Rev John Alcock of Frankfield (23 Nov 1843), poems (including 'The Supper - A Mock Heroic Poem' by D Tuckey, 1789), and further verse, essays, and other writings on religious themes.
