Scóp agus InneacharCopies of letters, notes, and other items relating to the history of the Cork Socialist Party, subsequently the Cork branch of the Communist Party of Ireland. Includes the following:
1. Description of the founding of the Cork Socialist Party [written by Jim Savage]. 3pp (1940's)
2. Constitution of the Cork Socialist Party with 10 articles such as state control of monetary system, nationalisation of industries, abolition of land annuities, abolition of Partition, 2pp. Also summary of aims, means, conditions of membership and principles of organisation of the Party. 1p [1946]
3. Copy of Cork Examiner (17 Mar 1947) with copy of Bishop Coholan's letter of denunciation of the Cork Socialist Party, in his men's mission week address, read at all Masses in Cork City; '...it is Communism, not religion that is the opium of the peoples...'. Also text of address by redemptorist priest Rev Fr. John Murray at SS. Peter and Pauls Church, based on Bishop Colohan's letter, '...guard your city from the evil that even now seeks entrance at her gates'. 1p.
4. Copies of 3 letters (25 Mar, 17 Apr, 12 May, 1947) from Bishop Coholan's office in reply to a request for a meeting from Jim Savage, Secretary, Cork Socialist Party. 'His Lordship wants to know the address of each member of the deputation and also the parish in which he lives...' 3pp
5. Copies of 3 letters (30 June, 9 July, 19 July 1989) from Jim Savage, Western Rd., to Kieran Burke, Cork City Library. Contains information on the history of Socialist party in Cork, such as, Savage's appointment to the Cork Port Sanitary Authority when he was secretary of the Labour Party Constituency Council and such as, the unemployed movement, also, election of Jack Murphy as TD, the Wolfe Tone Society, the anti-EEC movement, 10pp. (Also copies of 3 letters from Kieran Burke, Cork City Library to Jim Savage, 3pp).
6. Leaflet 'The Oil is Ours' from the 'Resources Protection Campaign', demanding set up of a State oil and mining company 4pp
7. Headed notepaper of 'Republican News...Official organ of the republican movement in Cork' (Editor Jim Savage) (blank); also headed note paper of Muintir Wolfe Tone/ Wolfe Tone Society with slogan (blank). 3pp (?1950s-1960s)
