Ámbito de contenidoDiary/Journal of Edward Murphy, Bombardier, Royal Marine Corps. Begins in September 1887 with an account of the journey (on HMS Ranger) from 'Portsmouth to Bombay 6,960 miles (via Suez & Aden)', followed by summary entries as the fleet progressed through the Indian Ocean, to Muscat, Bahrain, Diego Garcia, Mauritius, Colombo, Rangoon, and elsewhere. At the back of the volume is a table summarising 'Cruise of HMS Ranger on the East Indies'. The journal ends in December 1889, with Murphy at Aden and the fleet attending to east African affairs. Murphy again records sailings and onboard activities, but also refers to political events, eg, on 30 April 1888 the fleet was visited by Ayub Khan 'the principal figure in the late Afghan War' (p14), and to social affairs, eg, a ball and cricket match at Trinco, Ceylon (Sri Lanka) in November 1888 (p49). 112pp
