Ámbito de contenidoBooklet illustrating proposed urban developments in Cork city centre's docklands. Contains brief overview of the activities of the developer Howard Holdings PLC, Cork, including their completed development City Quarter at Lapp's Quay.
The Atlantic Quarter was a development proposed for an area including the eastern tip of the city centre island, and the area immediately to the south east along the course of the river Lee, to the Atlantic Pond. The development contains illustrations of proposed buildings, with accompanying text descriptions of the proposed architectural designs. Contributions to the booklet include Wilkinson Eyre Architects, Patel Taylor, Scott Tallon Walker Architects, HKR Architects, and Foster + Partners. Structures proposed included three new bridges, offices, parks and an event centre.
The Atlantic Quarter development was estimated at 850 million euro, and ultimately completely unbuilt following the economic recession of 2008-2013. The development originated in the Cork Docklands Development Strategy, commissioned by Cork City Council in 2001. The booklet is an important record of proposed urban regeneration in the city and evidence of different private architects sub-contracted by the private property developers Howard Holdings PLC, Cork.
