Gleeson, Chaplain, 2nd Battalion, Royal Munster Fusiliers, France, to Mrs Cremin, Teergay Rd., Droumcarra, Macroom, County Cork, concerning the death of her son, Lance Corporal Daniel Cremin, in action on 10 Nov 1917. Daniel is referred to as 'noble, virtuous, kindly...saintly....'. He frequently received 'the Sacrements of the Church...and urged all his comrades to do so...'. He was 'a model and inspiring Catholic soldier, and the men of his company and Battalion will ever treasure the memory of this big, strong, kindly comrade. The particulars and manner of his death are best known to his company officer, and I am sure he will send you everything he can [Command], but his preparation of soul and heart, I myself, know, was the [most] beautiful and touching. He received the Sacraments every [time] he possible[sic] could and particularly as the battle drew near...'. He hopes that she, his '...bereaved mother will accept his death...with full resignation to God's holy will...'. He was '...one of the most faithful in a Battalion of brave and virtuous soldiers'.
