PR46/3 Envelope containing (i) note stating 'to be sent to the Cork Arc. Society by the wishes of Miss Florence Hackett (1963), Diaries of B Hackett'; (ii) ms headed '[Fr.] Robert's Introduction', with a note in the corner stating 'this refers to a [farce] I remember Canon McInerney, Kilkee, Co Clare. He was very old & this was written in 1911' (unsigned). The main text is in parentheses and uses much stage Irish ('There's a mather that I have to shpake about...').
Taken altogether, the collection is a significant resource for study of the Hackett family, including its members in Midleton and Kilkenny, and in America. Also contained, inter alia, are first-hand accounts of major events, including the Repeal movement of the 1840s, the Great War (1914-18), and the Easter Rising (1916), adding to the personal, familial, and social historical value of the diaries and papers.
