Written on headed paper of The Canadian Northern Railway Company, Office of the Third Vice President. A phrase 'Strictly on the Square' underlined at the top of the letter, this may be a masonic reference. Adderley was a recent emigrant to Canada, with his wife and 2 sons. Begins 'Dear Jim, Thank God I am at last in a position to give you a good account of myself....'. Refers to debts he left behind, but will pay, and his initial difficulty securing a good clerk position. Refers to 'the Lodge' (Masonic Lodge) in [Bandon]. He obtained a 'very good post' in the Chief Accountant's office of the Railway Company.
