Scope and ContentTwo albums containing postcards showing scenes from all over Ireland, many of them of famous tourist attractions and well-known towns and villages. Monochrome and colour cards are present. A great many of the colour cards are from series by Valentine, Dublin. Other cards are by the Great Southern Railways (Hotels Department), using images from the Lawrence collection. Images from this collection are also used on other post cards present. Other images and publishers occur throughout. A small number of the cards use real photographic prints. All of the cards mounted in the albums are blank.
Four completed post cards, left loose (unmounted), occur in the volumes. The first, dated 27 Jun 1945, is to Mrs Conway, Rose Arden, Wellington Bridge, Cork, from 'Evie', at Ballycotton, regarding her holiday. The second, dated 14 Dec 1952, is to Mr TA Conway MA, Rose Arden, Sunday's Well Road, Cork, from DJE Shrek, Utrecht, the Netherlands, sending Christmas wishes. The third, occurring in the second volume, is addressed to Miss MM Bowen, Howth, Co Dublin, from 'Father', stating 'At the Exhibition. Raining yet'. The card bears a real silk woven image promoting the 'Greater Cork International Exhibition, 1903'. It includes the city's arms with the motto translated into Irish, and small images of 'Kilcrea Castle' and Blackrock Castle. By WH Grant & Co, Coventry [Evidently an item collected by the albums' owners]. The fourth, also in the second volume, shows Sunday's Well, Cork, and is addressed to PJ McCall, 25 Patrick St, Dublin, , with a rough note on the margin at the front reading 'Still here. Hope this will reach you intact [M.N]'. A souvenir stamp of the Cork International Exhibition, Aug 29th 1902, has been placed at the front.
