Scope and Content1) Charter in Latin granted in the second year of Edward IV’s reign to the Corporation of Youghal (damaged & very fragile). It recounts the rights and privileges granted to the town by Henry VI. It allows the Sovereign pleas of lands within the town and liberties, no sheriff of the county, keeper of the Peace etc. can hold assizes within the town, apart from the locum-tenens of the King. Any jury of the town’s court is to be made up of townspeople. Youghal is possibly made one of the Cinque ports of Ireland, and the Sovereign of Youghal is given the title of Mayor, and also the rights and privileges which that office carries.
