Scope and ContentOriginal and copy charters and translations of charters, granted to Youghal Corporation conferring various rights and privileges upon the town government.
Such as, early 1800s copy, in Latin, of a King Edward III charter (1375) giving liberty to the Sovereignty of Youghal to collect custom to aid in the building of the town; and such as, original Charter (1462), in Latin, from King Edward IV, to the Corporation of Youghal, recounting the rights and privileges granted by Henry VI, mentioning the Cinque Ports of Ireland, and conferring the title 'Mayor' on the Sovereign of the town, and including two early 1800s translated copies of the Charter.
Associated material includes a copy Act of Parliament, confirming all patents and grants to Youghal town (1483); a copy of a letter from Queen Elizabeth 1st to Sir John Perrott, Lord Deputy of Ireland, in relation to the Corporation of Youghal (June 1584), and a translated copy of letter from the Privy Council of England to Sir Arthur Chicester, Lord Deputy of Ireland concerning granting of 'Cockett and poundage' to rebuild town walls (Jan. 1608).
