"We are in a terrible state of alarm in this Country caused by the insurrectionary movements of some of the Young Irelanders....the 'Habeus Corpus' has been suspended...Proclamations have been issued by the Government, offering rewards for the arrest of Smith O'Brien, Meagher, O'Gorman and Denny Lane, Mich. Joseph Barry..." and "4 or 5 other respectable citizens/heads of clubs were arrested here to day and are to be sent off in a week to prison in Scotland... God only knows how long...it is now people who were before opposed to the dear Liberator's 'Moral force' agitation acknowledge the wisdom and the policy of it, and regret their departure from it, for a moment, their conduct has been the cause, I very much fear of crushing liberty and the free expression of opinion in this Country for many years to come...". etc.
