Scope and Content'....Whereas our loving subjects the inhabitants of our town of Youghal in that our Realm of Ireland have made humble petition unto us to have their Old Charter renewed with some other things to be granted...given to our Privy Council....in consideration of the great decay of the same town being in manner wholly destroyed by the late Rebels there and for the good report constantly made unto US of their loyalty... We are pleased to favour them in the more part of their humble Petitions....'
Queen Elizabeth regrants all the rights to the Mayor Baliffs, Burgesses and Commanalty of Youghal under their old charter, also remits Black Rent of £4 levied by the late Earl of Desmond, 'the Rebel'. She also grants the office of Searcher and Guager, one messe from every herring-boat, as well as the rights to a passage boat (ferry). Also she will bestow some of the escheated lands to the Corporation once a general survey has been completed, etc.
'Given under our Signet at our Manor of Richmond the twentieth of June 1584...'
