Scope and ContentHard copy and digital copy of research publication containing a detailed catalogue of more than 300 sailing ships, mostly schooners, brigantines, brigs, and barques, that traded out of various harbours in County Cork in the nineteenth century. Some also traded in the early twentieth century. The details cover each ship’s place of construction, ownership, names and origin of serving masters and crew, and foreign ports of discharge or lading. Shipwrecks and loss of life at sea are also indicated. Among the harbours listed are Cork Harbour (comprising Cork City, Passage West and Ballinacurra) and elsewhere from West to East, such as Clonakilty (Ring), Courtmacsherry, Kinsale and Youghal. A thematic historical appendix contains additional guidance. Contains several illustrations such as maps, paintings and photographs of sailing ships, and various harbour scenes.
