Scope and ContentPrinted copy of draft short history of Cork city's water reservoirs by John O'Sullivan, titled 'The Ten Reservoirs of Cork City', intended for publication in the 2019 edition of the Cork Holly Bough. The history of the city's reservoirs is traced to the foundation of the Cork Pipe Water Co. in 1768, with the second reservoir known to be constructed in 1858. This reservoir, known as the 'Low Level' reservoir, was located within the grounds of the Cork District Lunatic Asylum in the townland of Shanakiel. The article details the construction of the city's reservoirs for the period up to 1987 when the tenth reservoir was constructed at Churchfield. It includes technical information as to the materials of construction and the capacities of the reservoirs measured in gallons.
