Scope and ContentThree pages of copies of photographs with annotations, of members of the Varian family of Cork city, stone masons and brick-construction tradesmen of Cork and later of Boston, Massachusetts.
(i) Copy black and white photograph of group of young men annotated as Christian Brothers Deerpark, Friars Walk, Cork, dated 1952. Image shows some in the group wearing work overalls and others dressed in school or business clothing. Photograph is outside unidentified buildings to the rear. Annotations show three in the group as Jim Mason, Chundley, and Liam Varian.
(ii) Single page with three copy photographs, top-left annotated as Liam Varian, Chundley, and Jim Mason, dated 1952. Photograph is of three young men as in item (i), Top-right is a miniature photograph of St Francis Roman Catholic Church, Liberty Street, Cork. Photograph shows two men standing beside statue of St Francis on plinth above stone entranceway to the church. The photograph is captioned: 'stone entrance erected by Tommy Hogan from Middleton and Liam Varian'. Bottom photograph, undated, annotated with names Paddy Varian and Harry Varian, shows workmen brick-laying at unknown property.
(iii) Copy newspaper article concerning Liam Varian. The article mentions his brother Henry Varian and that the family emigrated to America in the 1950s. The family went on to build the Village Coach House restaurant in Brookline village. The article records that Liam Varian's mother taught his son how to cook at the restaurant in Brookline, a suburb of Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
