Scope and ContentTwo publications by Richard Hayes Phillips (New York, 2015): 1) White Slave Children of Colonial Maryland and Virginia: Birth and Shipping Records, 2) White Slave Children of Charles County, Maryland: The Search for Survivors.
The volumes contain names of white 'slave' children in colonial Maryland and Virginia, researched from parish, shipping, and other colonial-era records. Includes alphabetical lists arranged by surname. Information details name, date of baptism, parish of baptism, and may include county of arrival in the colonies. Other information includes lists of ship names, ship masters, and an index to orphans. The second volume contains brief accounts of a select number of individual children, with information including date of expected freedom, and decisions of court proceedings made regarding duration of servitude. The volumes survey 5,290 children from both Britain and Ireland, including those transported from the Irish ports of Dublin, Cork, Belfast, and Derry. Cork records include names taken from the parish of the Holy Trinity, (Christchurch) 1643-1669.
