TitleBlackpool Church Architectural Drawings
ReferenceB505/MPD/BC
Date
[c.1930s]
Scope and ContentArchitectural drawings for new church in Blackpool, including different proposals for tower design, windows, and sculptures. A small number of drawings are signed by Seamus Murphy. The window designs are unsigned, however, believed to be by Harry Clarke, designer of windows at the Honan Chapel. Known as the Church of the Annunciation, building work commenced in 1945 with architect E.P. O'Flynn. The church, on Great William O'Brien street, replaced the earlier church of St Nicholas dating to the 1890s. [Source: National Inventory of Architectural Heritage, entry 20862036]. Note, one drawing by Seamus Murphy for monument at the family grave in St Finbarr's cemetery is also present.
