Scope and ContentPrinted Grand Jury Schedules of Presentments for County Cork, Applications for Summer Assizes 1834. Contains a list of contracts considered at the King's Old Castle court session on 24th June 1834, and meetings at barony level.
County at Large contracts includes a list of salaries for the functioning of the justice system: the Treasurer of the County, the Clerk of the Crown, the Clerk of the Peace, the Secretary of the Grand Jury, the Court-keeper of the Crown Court, and the Judge's Crier. The County at Large meeting also lists salaries for the County Gaol and House of Correction, including, for example:- the Medical Officer, the Apothecary, the Governor, the Matron, and the Assistants. The meeting also records the sum of £568 0 0 awarded:- 'To the Commissioners for building the new Court houses, ...running parallel with Fishamble lane', and 'the eight Instalment of a sum of £17,000, for building New Court Houses'.
Barony meetings cover the construction and maintenance of footpaths, roads, and bridges, for example the 'repair [of] the parapet walls of Ballanhassig bridge', in the Barony of Kerricurrihy.
Volume is inscribed with the name of Baronet Sir William Wrixon Becher, being first baronet of Ballygiblin, 1780-1850, and quoted under the County at Large Establishment as one of the overseers of the building of the new County Cork Courthouse.
