Scope and ContentPapers of William and Jerome F O'Leary of Cork, reflecting their political, cultural and other involvements and interests. These have been divided into sub-groupings: certificates and cards relating directly to William and Jerome; printed pamphlets; newscuttings and notes; photos; and sashes and other artifacts including pins and medals.
SM884/1-6 William's receipt for subscription to the Young Men's Society (Spring 1862); William's certificate of membership of the Ancient Order of Foresters (1872); William's membership card of the Cork branch of the Irish National Federation (1897), which states his address as Kilnap Mills; Jerome's membership card of the Christian Brothers' Past Pupils Association [undated]; a Cork Municipal Swimming Baths club ticket (1906, with address at Sarsfield's Terrace); and an invitation to the opening of the seventh Irish Industrial Exhibition on 25 Nov 1912.
SM884/7-10 Printed card, Rules of the All-for-Ireland League; pamphlet by George Hobart 'The Martyrdom of Father Coigley: a tragic episode of '98' (Dublin, 1898); pamphlet by John Mitchel 'An Apology for the British Government in Ireland' (Dublin, 1882); pamphlet from Pamphlets for the People No 1 February 1906 entitled 'Cork Catholics & the Assembly Rooms'.
SM884/11-12 small photo mounted on card of 'the first engine employed on a public railway (1825); photo from Cork Weekly Examiner (22 Oct 1904) showing group 'The Watergrasshill Eviction Battle - The Defenders of the Murphy Home'.
SM884/13 Small bundle of newscuttings and notes. Some relate to the 1798 rebellion (centenary in 1898), and to Parnell. There are also some items of a religious character, poetry, and a flyer regarding the Boy Scouts of Ireland. Also present is a pocket set of prints 'The New Album of Dublin Views' [undated].
SM884/14-16 Sash, Ancient Order of Foresters; small sash-banner: 'Vote for Crowley'; souvenir of Great Exhibition of Industries Cork 1883 by WH Grant, Coventry, being a cloth badge showing 'CS Parnell/Ireland's Gifted Leader/MP for Cork, Woven in the Cork Industrial Exhibition 1883' [mounted on paper].
SM884/17 Small parcel of lapel ribbons, several relating to the All-for-Ireland League, c1902-1912 [mainly torn and in poor condition]
SM884/18 Tin badges, Pioneer Total Abstinence Association (1888), All-for-Ireland League, Cork Industrial Development Association, and several Catholic medals. Also present are one Spanish coin (1866), one Swiss coin (1908),and a snuff box with the inscription 'Lisenbahn', with image of a steam train [14 items].
