Etendue et contenuPoster 'TO THE RIGHT WORSHIPFUL THE MAYOR', from Charles Daly MD, John Beamish MD, J.Pitcairn MD, James Willes MD, Abram Orpen MD. In reply to letter concerning the Cholera epidemic in Cork.
Argues against the prevalent idea that whiskey is the best preventive against the 'Spasmodic Cholera', and quotes passages from Edinburgh Board of Health rules advocating that the 'essential precaution for escaping the disease is Sobriety'. Also quotes rule for cleanliness and ventilation of dwelling houses, warm clothing, regularity of hours of sleep, keeping indoors at night and taking food before going out in the morning.
Notes Cholera is contagious but not as infectious as typhus and the risk is diminished by 'temperance and cleanliness'. Refers to hospitals now opened for relief of cholera victims, and ardour of 'benevolent individuals engaged in keeping them in full operation...'.
