Ámbito de contenido1. 11 Mar 1845 Summons to Elizabeth Casey of Blarney Lane, eating house keeper, from Richard Dowden, Mayor of Cork and Chief Magistrate, to appear before him at his office at Paradise Place, to show cause why a penalty of £5 '....shall not be adjudged against you according to Law; for that you did wilfully and malicously obstruct and prevent the Police from doing their duty contrary to the Statute without case made and provided'. (1p)
2. 18 July 1845 Printed circular letter from Richard Dowden, Mayor of Cork, presenting his respects in compliance with a Council resolution, to the destitute families of those shot by the Police on 30th June at Ballinhassig Village, appealing for charitable assistance for same. Lists each of the 7 people killed and describes situation of each of their families left behind, such as, Maurice Corkeran, with a wife and 5 young children wholly dependent on his earnings as a labourer. Also mentions 10 men badly wounded, who may be disabled for life. Also record of 'Meeting of Gentlemen', to consider setting up a subscription for the families left destitute. A committee would be formed consisting of the Mayor of Cork Richard Dowden, Alderman Thomas Lyons, Michael Murphy and William Fagan, and circulars will be addressed to the leading nobility and gentry in England and Ireland. 3. March 1847 Sworn declaration by Richard Dowden of 22 Sundays Well Road, Vinegar Merchant, having been elected Alderman for the Lee Ward of the Borough of Cork, to take said office and '...duly and faithfully fulfill the duties thereof...'. Also declares that he has occupied for 12 calendar months past a house rated for poor relief at net annual value of not less than £25, situated within the Borough. (1p)
