Scope and ContentCopies of newspaper articles. 1. (The Kerryman, 2 Aug 1958) ' Commemoration Mass for Kanturk IRA Men', Commandant Paddy Clancy and Jack O'Connell who were killed at the home of the O'Connells, Derrygallon, Kanturk, on 16 Aug 1920. Arrangements for the mass were made by Jack McCarthy of New York. Gives an account of the lead up to the events including how Jack McCarthy narrowly escaped being killed on the same day. 2. (Irish Press Jan 1965) 'Emigrated', about Jack McCarthy, president of the Cork Football Club, New York, who keeps in touch with old comrades such as Jerry Murphy of Kanturk, the Buckleys of Banteer Road and the Keatings. A close former comrade was Commandant Denis Murphy, O.C. of Kanturk Battalion IRA, who was involved in the capturing of Mallow army barracks in Sept. 1920. Records that Cork County Council, at the petition of Jack McCarthy and others, named a new terrace of houses in Kantruk after Denis Murphy.
