Scope and ContentPhotocopy of [a transcript] of Richard Caulfield's 1875 MS. transcript of volume 1 of the books of the Cork Corporation relating to Court of D'Oyer Hundred. The Court of D'Oyer Hundred was a civic assembly made up of all Freemen/Burgesses of Cork City and within which all officials of Cork Corporation were elected and sworn in including the Speaker of the Common Council, Mayor, Aldermen, Sheriffs, Constables, etc. The Jurors for the Grand Jury were also selected from the ranks of the Freemen/Burgesses sitting in the Court.
Valuable as a reference for the history of the trades and guilds of Cork, mayors and officals of Cork Corporation, and the history of individuals.
Includes (for example):
Lists names of those Freemen elected or sworn in as Common Council members, swordbearers, sergeants at mace, high constables of the Southern surburbs, Northern and Southern Liberties, Whitechurch, Rathcoursey, Carrigrohane, Douglas, Currakippane, and other areas, constables of each Quarter in the City, water balliff, Grand Jurors, Mayors, Sherriffs, Aldermen, Chamberlain, Common Clerk and Clerk of the Crown and Peace. Also swearing in of masters and wardens of various Guilds, including; Freemasons, Tanners, Cordwainers, Butchers, Goldsmiths, Carpenters and Joiners, , Porters, Clothiers, Merchant Tailors, Barber Chirurgeons, Blacksmiths, Whittawers, Coopers, Tallow Chandlers, Bakers.

(22 May 1729) Panel of all persons declared to be Freemen at large of the City Corporation including officials, Burgesses of the [Common] Council and other Burgesses (pp121-127)
In a note at the end of the transcript , Richard. Caulfield writes; ''Finished this MS. on...July 29th 1875 exactly as Shandon clock was striking 10pm in my study in Royal Cork Institution. This is the first volume of the Court of D'Oyer Hundred Book and contains entries from 23 May 1656 to 6 July 1730. I have ommitted all the entries that occur in the Council Books of the Corporation of Cork which I am now printing for publication. This MS. will be found valuable as a reference, for the history of many of the trades of Cork. . . Also for tracing the history of individuals.''
Also, photocopy of MS. transcript of record of trustees appointed by a Court of D'Oyer Hundred 27 Jun 1810 for distibuting the sum of £200 paid by former Mayor Paul Maylor and others in lieu of annual dinners to the Freemen at Large on election and swearing-in days. (2pp)
