Scope and Content1. 14 Nov 1918 TS. letter marked 'Secret', from [WM Connolly], [Under Secretary], Chief Secretary's Office, Dublin Castle, to The Secretary, General Post Office, Dublin. Mary Murphy, postmaster at Freemount, County Cork has died and her husband Patrick is seeking the job. Declares that the Lords Justices are informed that he is in sympathy with the Sinn Fein movement, to which he subscribes and he has let a room to an 'advanced and dangerous Sinn Feiner', John Noonan. Currently Nellie Cushion is carrying out work at the post office but she is associating continually with Sinn Feiners, passing on information to them. MS. note, 15 Nov 1918, by Secretary, GPO, that the matter will receive attention. (2pp)
2. 8 Sep 1916 TS. circular letter marked 'Confidential', from Postmaster General, Secretary's Office, GPO, Dublin, to Supervising Staff in the Post Office, with 'Extract from the Report of the Committee appointed to enquire into the cases of Civil Servants in Ireland suspended from duty in connection with the recent rebellion...' (Easter Rising), concerning need to '...instill a higher tone in the ranks... and to require a more distinct recognition of the obligations which properly attach to Public Service...'. The Postmaster General instructs post office supervising staff to 'act accordingly'. (1p)
