Scope and ContentMainly letters to James Roche (b1770-d1853), from a variety of people; also a letter to Mary Anne (?Roche); and a letter to Marianne (?Roche) and 2 letters from James Roche.
1. 20 Apr 1829 From [?Martin] Mahony, (?possibly the father of Francis Mahony 'Father Prout'), Cork, to James Roche, Parliament St., London; expresses great joy at Catholic Emancipation and praises 'the great O'Connell'; requests him to write an account in French of the events of the past year to figure in a report to the Minister, trade and commerce effects, etc. (2pp)
2. 4 Aug 1837 From William Roche, Limerick, to James Roche, National Bank of Ireland, Cork; inform of him of his election as M.P. for Limerick; described some political faction with the Orange Party; says he kissed the Queen's hand; election cost ?500. (4pp)
3. 14 Jul 1850 From [?FF Omiffe], Paris to 'My dear Mr. Roche'; encloses a letter for Mon. de la Ponee, and says he could possibly borrow his MS. for him. (4pp)
4. 12 Sep 1850 From John Bruce, Dorset Square, Dublin to 'Dear Sir' (James Roche)- requests to alter his paper re. Burke. (2pp)
5. 12 Jul 1851 From James Hardiman, Galway, to 'My Dear Sir', Stephen Roche Esq.; thanks him for the loan of a copy of his uncle's essays; praises same. (4pp)
6. 18 Oct 1851 From J.M. Coppinger, Executive Committee, Great Exhibition of the Works of Industry of all Nations 1851, Kensington Rd., London, to 'My dear Mr. Roche (James Roche). He has been allowed in his job until the very end of the Exhibition; thanks Roche for his volumens and praises his essays, they should have been published in London. (4pp)
7. 2 May 1852 From Anne ?Grasbois, Nemaries, Rue de Paris No.62, France, to 'My dearest Uncle', James Roche. Refers to her abandonment by her husband. (4pp) Partially illegible.
8. 30 Mar 1853 From ?M Roche, Limerick, 'My Dear James', James Roche, Woburn Place, Cork. Regrets to hear of his illness and wishes him well. (2pp)
9. 2 Apr 1853 From ?Sarah Helen Roche, 95 Georges St., Limerick, to 'My Dear Mary Anne', [Mary Ann Roche, first cousin]. Sympathises on the death of her father James Roche. (4pp)
10. 2 Apr 1853 From ?P. Roche, Dublin, to 'My dearest Marianne'. Sympathises on the death of her father James Roche and mentions the death of her own son, '....it is not for me to praise him, may God's holy will be done'. (2pp)
