Scope and Content1. 16 Oct 1800 Photocopy of Fermoy Market handbill with list of weekly premiums set by the proprietor [John Anderson] to ensure plentiful supplies of provisions for the army barracks and other inhabitants of the town, including potatoes, fish, vegetables, bread. Refers to premium paid 'by an Order of the Jury on Mr. Anderson's Cash Keeper'. Printed by G. Cherry at the Advertiser Office, Patrick St., Cork. (1p)
2. 19 Oct 1800 Photocopy of MS. letter from John Anderson, Cork to Alexander Marsden, Esq. [Under-Secretary to Lord Lieutenant], Dublin [Castle]. Refers to the ''very defective'' potato crop in the South. Notes the purchase of rice and Indian corn to feed the poor of Dublin and advocates the same for the poor of Fermoy town and neighbourhood, and requests the Lord Lieutenant to order agents employed in the business to get rice and corn at reduced rates to Fermoy; enclosing hand bill (item 1 above) indicating that he is 'not unwilling to contribute my mite towards the relief of the poor....', and it is his 'decided opinion that it will be highly dangerous to permit winter distilling or malting till after Christmas...'.
