Scope and ContentU16/1/1 - U16/1/4 : Copybooks containing the MSS. of Barry's booklet 'The reality of the Anglo-Irish war 1920-21 in West Cork : refutations, corrections and comments on Liam Deasy's Towards Ireland free', Anvil Press (1974). Author's note on cover of each, 'The contents of this copybook were written and corrected by me. They were then copied by my wife Leslie Mary' (total of 160pp). Contains textual and punctual corrections.
Enclosed in item 1/1 is a copy of a TS. letter (1 October 1973) sent to the editors of all national daily newspapers concerning 'Towards Ireland Free...', stating that it is not a '...reliable or factual book...', with parts he considers '...a travesty of history...', and containing omissions of 'great importance', showing the Column Commander 'as a moron, incapable of commanding a single sniper, not to mention a Flying Column.' (2pp)
Note: Liam Deasy's book was entitled 'Towards Ireland free : the West Cork Brigade in the War of Independence, 1917-1921' edited by John E. Chisholm, Mercier Press (1973).
U16/2. MS. letter (?24 Aug [1915-1919] from Col. Hudson, HQ, 5th Division Curragh Camp, (O.C. Kings Liverpool Regiment, Skibbereen), to 'Dear Barry', regarding a suit (2pp).
