Scope and ContentCopy file relating to acquisition of lands at Banteer, Co Cork, and its vicinity, by the Killarney Junction Railway Company. Included are the following:
(U12/1) memorandum of agreement dated 8 January 1847 between the Great Southern and Western Railway Company and Lord Lismore for purchase of the latter's lease interest in lands at Ballydahin, Mallow;
(U12/2) Notice, dated 2 December 1850, of deviation of line of the Killarney Junction Railway, issued to Lord Lismore by Barrington, Son, & Jeffers, solicitors for the Killarney Junction Railway Company. The notice informs that it is intended to apply to parliament to authorise the deviation in plans referred to in the 'Killarney Junction Railway Act, 1846', and that stated lands in the parish of Clonmeen, Co Cork, are to be relinquished (schedule of lands included);
(U12/3) Letter dated 23 November 1850 from Thomas B. Huthwait for Barrington, Son, & Jeffers, to Lord Lismore's representative, regarding alteration of the line of the railway from the left to the right bank of the River Blackwater. It is noted that the altered line will run through 'a considerable tract of land' in which Lismore has interests, there is forwarded a schedule of townlands and particulars of tenancies, which he asks be checked and corrected as required. The schedule notes names of townland, owners or reputed owners, leasees or reputed leasees, and observations. Owners and lessees include Lord Lismore, Lord Kingston, and George Grehan. In a postscript, information is requested regarding a Callaghan O'Callaghan, to whom rent is paid by some in Banteer. A note explains he holds a subdenomination under Lord Lismore.
There follow a number of other schedules or lists of property:
(U12/4) Schedule, 'Leases in Parish of Clonmeen taken by Killarney Junction Railway', noting denominations, tenants's names, and observations (area and rent noted under this heading);
(U12/5) Schedule, 'Lands in Parish of Clonmeen taken by Killarney Junction Railway Co'. Noted are the denominations, the area taken by the railway company, the tenant's name, the total area of holding, rent, and value for one acre. A summary of the holdings, in Banteer ('Bantyre'), Shronabehi, and Gurrane, is given at the foot of the page;
(U12/6) List of holdings in the townlands of Banteer and Derry, noting tenant's name, (rent), and valuation. Signed by R Rowland [solicitor]
(U12/7) 'Rental (for the present) of Derrigh from 29 September 1849'. The headings given are Name (of tenant), area, rate per acre, yearly rent, 'proposal buying' [rent offered by railway company], and 'Received' [rent paid to date]. Incomplete.
(U12/8) Page from list of holdings, without headings, apparently noting names of tenants and figure relating to area, rent, valuation, and possibly the rent/price paid by the railway company for the land. [Possibly a continuation of U12/7]
