Scope and ContentMixed collection arranged in two main parts. Part (a) consists of family papers and photographs, including a few letters relating to Daniel Galvin, and some Kiskeam-Boherbue parish accounts maintained by him. Also present are letters to Norah Galvin from past pupils and others. Part (b) is comprised of printed matter, including newscuttings, newspapers (the Leader), and journals, generally of a Catholic or republican nature, with some articles by Daniel Galvin (Domhnail Uí Ghealbháin), and several by Rev JJW Murphy, C.SS.R, a writer on Israel and Palestine, censorship, and other subjects.
Although limited in scope, the collection documents in some measure the personal and community relationships of Mrs Galvin and her family, and sheds light on their cultural interests, and on rural cultural life in the early decades of the Irish State. For instance, SM638/10 is a letter to Daniel Galvin from Sean Ua Ceallaigh, aka JJ O’Kelly or Sceilg, then president of the Gaelic League and, a month previously, Secretary for Education under the Second Dail.
