Production date 1897 - 1964
Scope and ContentMinute Book recording meetings of the association, including annual and regular meetings. These latter were at first monthly, and later quarterly. Lists of members occur at various points throughout the volume. Many letters and notices are inserted among the pages, including, at the front, a letter of 25 Aug 1906 regarding time logs, followed by notes of union-agreed times allocated for making specified garments. Changes in the name of the association are reflected throughout, as it became the Cork branch of national tailoring organisations, and, later, part of the Cork Branch of the Federated Union of Employers.
Entries are generally in chronological order, although some minutes for 1903-05 occur among those for 1939, and minutes for one 1899 meeting occur on the first page. There were apparently few meetings during the years of First World War (1914-18).
Recurring subjects include discussions with the Amalgamated Society of Tailors and, the National Union of Tailors and Garment Workers, regarding wages and conditions.
29 Oct 1918 special meeting to consider formation of an all-Ireland master tailoring federation.
21 Apr 1939, special meeting, condolences were passed on the death of JH Daniels, a former president 'associated with the tailoring trade in Cork for a great number of years'.
12 Jun 1942 letter from Irish MTA regarding the new rationing order, thought 'disastrous to our trade in its present form'.
The minutes document the development of the association and its dealings with unions representing tailoring workers, over a period of nearly 70 years in which great changes affected workers and employers in those trades. The volume also records the names of officers and members, particularly in the association's early years.
