Scope and ContentFive items [collected by the Wharton family]:
1. Letter, 30 May 1854, from Palmerston [Henry, Lord Palmerston, then Home Secretary], to the Lord High Commissioner of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland, acknowledging that he has laid the Loyal and Dutiful Address of the Ministers and of the Church of Scotland before the Queen. 2pp
2. Manuscript copy of 'Chapter V. Protestant Period of Dunblane, including the Protestant Bishops' [1560-1606]. 8pp
3. Bound volume containing 'Punch or the London Charivari' April - June 1879, preceded by two numbers of 'Zoz', April 1879. A note inside the front cover reads 'Part of the Library of the Officers of the Waterford Artillery Militia which was Broken up in July 1909. This amongst other books was presented to Major ST Kirkwood by Lt Col L Esmonde July 1909'. [Other items present are not directly linked to the Library]
4. Ms note transcribed from Walford's 'County families... of the three kingdoms', regarding George Bowles, Mount Prospect, Co Cork [d1792].
5. Ms list of army officers, grouped into generals (3), colonels (5), majors (2), captains (11), lieutenants (10). Various regiments are indicated. The surname occurring most is Bowles, with Robinson, Woodley, and Oakes also occurring several times. 1p [List includes Col Vere Bowles. Vere Hunt Bowles was an ensign in the 63rd Regiment, 1849-67 (http://discovery.nationalarchives.gov.uk/Details/AssetMain?iaid=C13297325).
