Scope and ContentNotes by CJF McCarthy entitled 'Materials for Topography of Old Cork' and marked "CJF '96" including material on subjects including city plan of Cork 1726, walled city and lanes of Cork 1650, Cork Silver Mark and coat of arms, transcripts of deeds, the Mardyke/Red House Walk, the city walls, Grand Parade, Pike and Baker families. SM604/1 A file of copy maps of Cork City, including map of streets and lanes in 1650 (JCHAS 1963); 1726 Plan (CJF, 1990); copy portion of Roques's 1773 map; map showing city wall, surveyed 1899-1900
SM604/2 File of copies and partial copies of deeds, including a 17th century deed referring to White Tower and Grand Parade area (National Archives); 1705 lease, Ebinezar Pike to Edward FFernn, property at Hanover st; 1710 lease between William Skiddie [Skyddy] and John and Jane Allin, executrix of will of Edward Hawkins, of property in Cork City [page from a separate lease also present] (National Archives); memorial of 1750 lease from Quinton Rogers to John Cragg of property in East Marsh at the Water Gate; 1796 lease from John Rains to Richard Barrett of property at Wandesford Quay.
SM604/3 File of notes and copy items with two title cards marked 'Topography of Old Cork'. One of these has a note 'NB this material will be used in an essay to be (dv) published in (June) JCHAS. 1997'. This material is on the subjects outlined above, and consists of transcripts from deeds and other records, extracts from reference works, sketches, and notes. Also present is the letter accompanying the material when deposited in the Archives. 31 items.
All three files are closely related, and have been arranged in this manner for convenience.
