Scope and ContentIrish National Teachers Organisation (INTO) scrapbooks containing cuttings from Irish national daily and Sunday newspapers on educational matters, in the period from 1965 to 1971. The cuttings are concerned with secondary as well as primary education, including the introduction of comprehensive schools. Other issues include corporal punishment, revision of courses, clashes with clergy over one- and two-teacher primary schools, protestant schools, education in Northern Ireland, free education, teaching through the Irish language, teachers' qualifications and salaries, teaching union conferences, industrial action (strikes), and many other topics. The majority of cuttings are from the Irish Times.
Unfortunately, the glue used to affix the scraps has caused some pages to stick, making them difficult to open, and damaging some text. The books themselves are drawing books, generally 36cmX27cm.
The scrapbooks respectively cover the following periods:
