Scope and ContentTwo bound volumes of typescripts of notes by Brother Allen, Christian Brother, North Richmond Street, Dublin. Two typescript volumes:
SM003/1. The Parishes of Enniskeane and Desertserges: Some particulars of the past from various sources. Contents include lists of inhabitants from Indexes to Irish Wills 1548-1800 (Phillmore); tenants on the Earl of Cork Estate (1682); lists of priests (1700-1964); reports on schools (by Commissioners of Education, 1824, 1835); and householders, 1851 (from Griffith's Valuation). Other particulars also present. 47pp
SM003/2. Catholic Qualification Rolls 1775-1801 for Cork City and County. The volume contains indexes to the qualification rolls, and other lists, including the Convert Roll for County Cork (1703-71); certificates of converts 'having taken the Oaths', parish priests in 1704; and notes on schools in the parish of Fanlobbus and Catholic Day Schools in Cork city and county receiving subscriptions, 1824.
The name(s) of the compiler(s) is not indicated for either volume. The volumes are a useful compilation of information from sources for the social, religious, and educational history of the Dunmanway/Enniskeane area of West Cork, particularly in the early to mid 19th century.
